CPS doctoral students Phil Murawski, Donna Jenkins, Joanna Rosner, Howard Buddin, Monique Marsh, Gretchen Lamendola, Anna George, and Chrissyl Shaw with their South African host families. Along with Professor Stephen Campbell and students traveled on a Humanitarian mission to South Africa and Swaziland. This experience exposed students to international issues, including how HIV/AIDS is impacting families and communities, poverty, issues facing women, and the stigma associated with both physical and mental illness. Student also gained experience with multicultural, religious, and spiritual issues. Students visited orphanages, schools, churches, communities, hospitals and governmental agencies. Students trained peer counselors, physicians, social workers,teachers and caregivers. |
