Psychodynamic Concentration

The Psychodynamic Concentration would like to invite you to inquire about the benefits of becoming a member. We can accept up to 10 first year students into the program. There are several ways to inquire about the concentration. You may contact Dr. Robert Lane the Program Director at his office, 2065 in the Maltz Psychology Building, by telephone (954-262-5727), or by email: boblane@cps.nova.edu. You may want to visit our Intensive Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Clinic in the Psychology Services Center or contact our coordinator at 954-262-5845. Any of the students already involved in the concentration would be happy to talk to you. You may want to attend one of the Friday in-service meetings in Room 2061 that begin every Friday morning at 9 AM to meet faculty and students currently involved in the program.

Some of the benefits of being a member of the Psychodynamic Concentration are:

  1. Nova Southeastern is one of the few universities in the U.S. to have a psychodynamic concentration in their Clinical Psychology Program.

  2. We have our own specialty clinic, the Intensive Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Clinic that provides opportunities for intensive twice-weekly therapy sessions with patients.

  3. The planned program of psychodynamic courses is designed to prepare students for further postgraduate training and private practice. Graduates of our program have gone on to complete analytic training, to become professors in universities, chief psychologists in hospitals, members of group practices, and to open their own practice. Our program is both known and respected by those hiring psychodynamic psychologists.

  4. We have an excellent record in the placement of concentration students in psychodynamically oriented internship programs. Our program has had students accepted at sites associated with major universities, and research hospitals.

  5. There are opportunities for practicum and testing supervision by senior psychologists, who are diplomates (ABPP) in psychoanalysis (Division 39 of the APA), and Clinical Psychology (Division 12, 29, or 42 of the APA). The faculty have many years of supervisory experience.

  6. The heading "Psychodynamic Concentration" appears on your graduate transcript.

  7. You can receive postgraduate analytic credit for the program towards a certificate in psychoanalysis from a local institute.
  8. The psychodynamic program and faculty are well known throughout the country and have an extensive network of contacts.

  9. The Friday morning in-service program addresses major issues in psychodynamic psychotherapy and is led by Professor Bady Quintar and our faculty. We also have guest speakers who bring their expertise in clinical work and areas of specialized knowledge.

  10. The faculty and students in the concentration feel they are a family and seek to help make the trials and tribulations of graduate study less problematic by trying to be there for each other. As a part of the desire to implement this goal the faculty has an open door policy, make time for students, and seek to facilitate the process of completing the program.
